reFuel was birthed from a simple desire for more; specifically, a desire for more of God and for more exclusive time to worship Him through music and the arts within a corporate setting with a community of believers.

Such a desire has been in Kelly’s and my (Brent's) heart for quite sometime. I emphasize that we were are and have been satisfied with our home church. We love where God has placed us and allowed us to serve! Yet, there was still a hunger for a place, an event, for a time set aside specifically to worship God though music, singing and the arts that did not have the necessary time constraints of a regular Sunday morning or Wednesday evening church service.

We also discovered that as we talked with friends and acquaintances, they were feeling a longing similar to ours. So we prayed for God to reveal His heart about the stirring we sensed. An answer came one night while having dinner with Bill and Sue McLeod. They too were in a place of desiring something more and it became obvious as the evening progressed that God was stirring us to step out and put on a night of worship that would be open to any one from any church. There were many details that needed to be handled before the night of worship could take place and we were wonderfully amazed as we watched God handle them all. And so on May 2, 2010 we held the first reFuel – Night of Worship. We had hoped for about 75 – 100 people to show up on that first night and we ended up having close to 250 people from approximately 20 different churches. What an incredible night it was!

One of the unique blessings of reFuel has been to see the number of churches and local businesses that have supported us by putting up posters advertising reFuel, placing announcements in their bulletins, loaning us chairs, etc…  This is an incredible blessing to us since a foundational principle of refuel is UNITY with the body of Christ. reFuel is about supporting churches and local Christian establishments and not about pulling people away from their churches. We want people to be able to come to refuel and be encouraged, energized and filled by God so that they are eager and ready to do the work that God has for them in their families, churches, work place and neighborhoods.

This is why refuel is a non-denominational, non-profit,  para-church ministry.  We desire to be a “refueling” station for believers from all denominations across the county. We purpose to be a place where all believers are welcome to come and worship God … “in spirit and truth”. In the early stages of planning and prayer about what reFuel should be, God gave us the verse out of Isaiah 40:31, “..but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint”. At refuel, our goal each month is provide a place where we can individually and corporately wait on the Lord and be renewed…. refueled!
